I was born and raised in Somerset, Southwest England, and developing an interest in wildlife at the age of 7 have been birding on the Somerset Levels ever since. Though Somerset has always been 'home', I was fortunate enough to spend much 15 years of my early career working around the UK as a warden and researcher on such legendary sites as Titchwell Marsh, Holme Dunes, The Isles of Scilly, Portland, The Farne Islands and Blakeney Point. most recently I worked as a reserve warden for WWT at Steart Marshes. Inbetween jobs I have enjoyed birding across the globe (semi-delerious blogs from these trips can be found here) and studied Ecology & Wildlife Conservation at Bournemouth University.

Most of my current work is as an ornithologist on luxury expedition cruise ships. As part of the expedition team I deliver zodiac boat tours and landings, hikes, kayaking and onboard lectures and education in the most special places on Earth, from the Arctic to Antarctica, and everywhere coastal inbetween.

I usually carry a camera with me and enjoy wildlife photography. Rather than setting out and waiting to capture specific shots, I like to simply record what I see happen in front of me as I am out and about and occasionally get some very satisfying images, though I remain very much a 'keen amateur'.
